Boerni E-Zither Set Up Dachboden Minciospace Fotoshoot by Burak Genc

E-Zither

I started learning the zither as a child – first in Carinthia, playing in the "Münchner Stimmung", and later in Vienna with the "Wiener Stimmung". But folk music was never really my path. After years of practice, I didn’t want to let go of the instrument – I wanted to reinterpret it. So when I first heard about the E-zither, I didn’t hesitate for long.

Today, I use the zither in both pop music and contemporary art. It accompanies my songs and has become a central part of my musical identity.

Scoby Ceremony (Sleepless Interlude)

At the Löwinnenhof in St. Pölten, I accompanied the Scoby Ceremony, a harvest ritual by Sandra-Laura Axinte, with my composition “Sleepless Interlude.”

Played with a violin bow, the E-zither unfolded floating, almost trance-like sounds, adding a meditative and fragile depth to the ritual setting – an atmosphere shaped by gratitude, transformation, and ceremony.

Grasshopper

Collaboration with ChrisDeBug, a versatile Viennese musician and live electronic artist. ChrisDeBug combines genres such as organic house, alternative electronic, and downtempo, consciously breaking down genre boundaries.

Our collaboration brought the experimental sounds of my electric zither into their electronic context and opened up new ways of merging music and sound.

Resignation Waltz

As a teenager, I participated in the CD production “A Slight Distraction” and played the zither on the song “Resignation Waltz”, together with the musicians of The Standards, produced by the London-based
Producer Werner Freistätter.
